Cross Country Teams Set to Compete in Centennial Conference Championships
On Saturday, the Swarthmore College men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Haverford College to compete in the 20th annual Centennial Conference championship meet, looking to improve on last year's finishes. In the 2011 meet, the men placed third while the women took sixth.
On the men's side, the Garnet, ranked ninth in the Mideast region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), will be led by top performer Jacob Phillips '13, who finished 10th overall in last year's championship meet with a time of 27:34.9. Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey '13 (20th/28:13.3 in 2011), Robert Fain '14 (31st/28:44.8), Jonas Oppenheimer '15 (43rd/29:21.7), and Stuart Russell '14 are other strong runners expected to perform well.
For the women, Jenna Cody '16, the top finisher for the Garnet in its last three races including a fourth-place finish in the Dickinson Long Run, looks to continue a strong first-year campaign at the championship meet. Rounding out the Garnet contingent are Rebecca Hammond '13, Emma Saarel '14, and Katie McMenamin '16, who are looking for strong finishes in a deep field that features five of the top ten teams in the region.
The men's race will begin at 11:00 AM and the women's team will compete at noon.
