Volleyball Releases 2012 Schedule

Swarthmore, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team announced its 2012 schedule on Tuesday.

The Garnet open the 2012 campaign at the Haverford Invitational on September 1 and 2, with matches against Frostburg State, Widener, Susquehanna, and Juniata, who made the Sweet 16 in 2011.

Swarthmore's home opener will take place on Friday, September 7, against powerhouse Eastern University. It will be a huge early-season test for the Garnet as the Eagles have gone 133-15 in the last four years and reached the NCAA semifinal in 2011.

The Garnet then travel to the Ducks Invitational at Stevens Institute of Technology on September 14 and 15 before opening Centennial play at Ursinus on Wednesday, September 17.

Following its Centennial home opener against Dickinson on Saturday, September 22, the Garnet begins a stretch where it will face three of the 2011 Centennial Conference semifinalists in four games. That stretch begins with road contests at Franklin & Marshall (Sept. 26) and Johns Hopkins (Sept. 29) and concludes with a home tri-match against Gettysburg and Moravian on Saturday, October 6.

The annual 320-Challenge match with Widener will be played at Tarble Pavilion on Thursday, October 11 and afterwards the Garnet travel to the prestigious Hall of Fame Tournament in Northampton, Mass.

Swarthmore concludes its regular season by hosting Tri-Co rivals Bryn Mawr and Haverford. The Owls, now led by former Garnet assistant Nicole Kelly, will visit Tarble Pavilion on Tuesday, October 23, while the match against the Fords will be on Saturday, October 27 in a rematch of last year's Centennial Tournament Opening Round.
