Volleyball Clinches Playoff Spot With 3-0 Rout of Bryn Mawr
BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Swarthmore volleyball team (22-6, 6-3 CC) kept its winning streak alive and clinched its third-consecutive trip the Centennial Conference playoffs by defeating the Bryn Mawr Owls (9-16, 3-6 CC) in straight set rout, 3-0 (28-26, 25-18, 25-14) on Tuesday evening.
The Owls pushed Swarthmore to the limit in the opening set, taking it to extra points but Swat held on and came out on top, 28-26.
After the first set, Swarthmore dominated the rest of the match as 10 Garnet players recorded kills led by sophomore Danielle Sullivan and freshman Danielle Delpeche, recording seven kills apiece.
Sophomore Allison Coleman played a pivotal part in Swat's win, shelling out 34 assists, 14 digs, three service aces and blasting four kills.
Three other Swarthmore players picked up double-digit digs with Hillary Santana posting 20 digs while seniors Lisa Shang (11) and Genny Pezzola (11) combined for 22.
Pezzola and sophomores Maggie Duszyk and Brone Lobichusky all had big games at the net, each dropping six kills.
Bryn Mawr's Katie Merrill led the match with 11 kills and 21 digs.
The Garnet volleyball team look to make it nine straight on Saturday, October 29th when it travels to the Main Line to take on Conference rival Haverford. The winner of the Swat-Haverford match will host the Centennial Conference First Round Playoff. Play is set to begin at 2:30 PM.
