Swat Spotlight: Erin Heaney '09 Celebrated for Envirormental Work
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Former standout Swarthmore volleyball player Erin Heaney '09 was recently named to Buffalo Business First's 20th annual 40 under 40 list.
The 24-year old was named to the list due to her work as Executive Director of Clean Air Coalition of Western New York. The Tonawanda, N.Y.-based organization aims to protect the right of local area residents to "breathe clean air and live, work and play in a healthy environment." In the two years since she joined the coalition, Heaney has helped to reduce air pollution in the local area, which she said ranks among the highest in all of New York.
The 2009 graduate currently holds school records in career digs (1560), digs per set (4.08), and is third overall in sets played (382) and tied for sixth overall in matches played (105).
In 2009, Heaney was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-area Performer of the Year for volleyball.
