Three Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Fall Academic All-Area Team
PHILADELPHIA - Swarthmore College student-athletes David D'Annunzio '12 (Men's Soccer), Micah Rose '12 (Men's Soccer) and Allison Coleman '13 (Volleyball) have been selected as Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Stars for their respective fall sports, the paper announced on Tuesday.

Six Swarthmore Student-Athletes Named to Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team
Lancaster, Pa. - Six Swarthmore student-athletes have been named to the 2010 Fall All-Centennial Sportsmanship Team, the Conference announced on Wednesday morning. The Centennial Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) established the All-Sportsmanship team in 2007. Each team elected a member from their squad who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season to be selected to the All-Centennial sportsmanship team.

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Centennial Conference runners-up Swarthmore volleyball team (20-11) landed three players on the All-Centennial team with as junior Genny Pezzola was named first-team All-Centennial while sophomore Kat Montemurro and junior Hillary Santana received second-team honors, the Conference announced Thursday morning. Harleigh Chwastyk was named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive season.

Volleyball Downs DeSales 3-1; Move onto ECAC Semifinals
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Genny Pezzola's 18 kills and 19 digs led the Garnet (20-11) to its first ECAC tournament victory on Wednesday night over the visiting DeSales Bulldogs (15-16) in four sets, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16). The win not only moves Swarthmore into an ECAC semifinal match against the hosting St. Vincent Bearcats on Saturday but also gives coach Harleigh Chwastyk her first 20 win season.

Volleyball Upsets Top Seed Haverford 3-2 To Reach Centennial Conference Final; Pezzola Records 1,000th Kill
HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Swarthmore volleyball team (19-10) pulled off the upset of the year, beating the top seed Haverford Fords (18-13) in five sets, 3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-8). The win puts Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference Championship final for the first time in history while snapping Haverford's four year reign as Centennial Conference champion.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Prior to the 2010 season, the Swarthmore volleyball team (18-10, 8-3 CC) hadn't defeated Gettysburg (16-14, 7-4 CC) in the 17-year existence of the Centennial Conference. With a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-21) victory Wednesday night from Tarble Pavilion in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs, the Garnet would make it two victories over the Bullets in two weeks, as junior Genny Pezzola led the way with 16 kills and 14 digs. With the win, Swarthmore moves onto the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Championships for a grudge match against the hosting Haverford Fords. Play is set to begin at 12:00 PM.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Sophomore Kat Montemurro's explosive attack led the Garnet offense but wasn't enough as the Swarthmore College volleyball team (15-6, 5-1 CC) would drop its first two games on Friday in the California Lutheran Fall Classic with a heartbreaking five set loss to Chapman University and a three set loss to Occidental College. SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior captain Sarah Lambert won tournament MVP with 14 aces and 45 assists, as the Swarthmore College volleyball team (8-1) defeated Wesley 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-18) and Cabrini 3-2 (23-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-9) to win its second consecutive Garnet Classic on Saturday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion. The Classic championship marks the first time the host Garnet have won the in consecutive years. The four weekend wins also extends the Garnet’s winning streak to five matches, as the squad continues to have the program’s best start in 35 years.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a tough 3-2 loss to Richard Stockton (3-1) to open championship bracket play Saturday morning, the Swarthmore Volleyball team (3-1) rebounded to take down host Moravian (3-1) in a four set battle. The 3-1 victory earned the Garnet its second Greyhound Premiere championship.
