Kenyetta Givans Qualifies for NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Kenyetta Givans of the Swarthmore College women's track & field team has qualified to compete in 100 meter hurdles championship at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges on May 24 through 26.

Givans' school-record time of 14.52 in the 100 hurdles ranks 17th out of all qualifiers. This is Givans' first NCAA Outdoor Championship selection and second overall NCAA Championship selection, as she finished ninth in the 55 meter hurdles at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Givans almost qualified for the 400 meter hurdles championship as well, but her time of 1:02.72 fell short of cutline by just .06 of a second. Junior Rebecca Hammond - who competed in the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships - just missed qualification in the 800 meter and 1500 meter runs.

The 100 hurdles prelims are scheduled for Friday, May 25 at 5:05 PDT (8:05 EDT), while the finals are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.  (6:15 EDT) on Saturday, May 26.
