Track & Field Teams Open Centennial Conference Championships at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College track & field teams opened the 2012 Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships with a small contingent of athletes competing in Friday's opening day.

For the men, junior Eric Verhasselt - the Garnet's lone participant in the decathlon - competed in the first five events of the weekend. His best result came in the 400 meter dash, where he finished in eighth place with a time of 57.07. Verhasselt finished ninth in a trio of events,  including the high jump (4-10.50), the shot put (31-11.25) and the long jump (16-10.00).

For the women, sophomore Emma Saarel competed in the 10,000 meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 43:28.50, good for 13th place.
