Women's Track & Field Competes in Widener Invitational
CHESTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track and field team put together a strong showing at the two-day Widener Invitational over the weekend.
Senior Kenyetta Givans led the way with a pair of individual Top 5 showings. Givans finished second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.93 and fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.76.
Junior Rebecca Hammond showed she was in top form heading into Centennials, as she finished in second place in a field of 47 in the 800 meter (2:15.29). Senior Stephanie Beebe was right behind with a ninth-place finish (2:18.61).
Also in the middle distance, junior Becky Painter (4:52.97) and senior Katie Gonzalez (4:58.38 / pictured) finished in seventh and 12th respectively in the 1,500 run.
In the sprints, senior Ogechi Irondi and freshman Ruth Talbot both had solid weekends. Irondi took eighth in the 200 meter dash (27.26) with Talbot right on her heels in 11th (27.54). Talbot also finished 11th in the 100 meter dash (13.17).
Off the track, sophomore Chelsea Hicks led the performers with an extremely impressive second-place finish in the women's triple jump (34-06.25). Irondi led the Garnet with an 11th place finish in the shot put (33-03.75), followed by freshman Osazenoriuwa Ebose (31-08.50 / 17th).
Swarthmore returns to action with the Haverford Mid-Week and historic Penn Relays during the upcoming week.
