Hammond, Hubbard Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Spring Academic All-Area Teams

PHILADELPHIA - Two Swarthmore College student-athletes - Max Hubbard '12 of the men's lacrosse team and Rebecca Hammond '13 of the women's track & field team - have been selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area teams for their respective spring sports, the paper recently announced.

Playing from the midfield, Hubbard (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) tied for the team-lead with 21 goals and finished second with 27 points to lead the Garnet during the 2011 season. A double major in biology and economics, Hubbard is also two-time member of the Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Hammond (Winters, Calif./Davis) is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign that saw her break the school record in the 800 meter run (2:13.44) and qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Combining the indoor and outdoor seasons, Hammond finished the 2010-11 season with three Centennial Conference medals while also earning a spot on the 2011 Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Including the selections of Hubbard and Hammond, Swarthmore finished the 2010-11 academic year with nine Philadelphia Inquirer all-area selections: Allie Coleman '13 (volleyball), David D'Annunzio '12 (men's soccer), Micah Rose '12(men's soccer), Kathryn Stockbower '11 (women's basketball), Travis Pollen '12, Daniel Duncan '13 (men's swimming) and Sarah Bedolfe '11 (women's swimming). Both D'Annunzio and Stockbower were named Performer of the Year for their respective sports.
