2011 Season Review
2011 Swarthmore Women’s Tennis (9-9, 8-2 CC)
Lia Carlson '14
Lia Carlson ’14 finished the season 8-4 in singles play from the No. 1 position and was 6-1 against Centennial Conference opponents to lead the Garnet women’s tennis team back to the Centennial playoffs in 2011.
Carlson earned Centennial Conference Second-Team honors and a No. 23 ranking among singles players in the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn.’s Atlantic South region.
Centennial play was highlighted by 9-0 sweeps of McDaniel, Franklin and Marshall, and Bryn Mawr, and an 8-1 victory over rival Haverford.
Several underclassmen contributed successful seasons for the team, which graduates just two seniors, Luann Cignavitch and Alexis Hickman. Stephanie Chia ’13 finished 7-1 in singles play in the spring, Aliya Padamsee ‘14 finished 5-4 including a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Ursinus in the fourth-singles spot, and Katie Samuelson ‘14 finished the year 9-4.
