CARY, N.C. - Sophomore Lia Carlson earned All-America status at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championships, winning her opening round match before bowing out in the Round of 16 on Thursday afternoon from Meredith College.
Competing in the NCAA Singles Championships for the first time in her young career, Carlson defeated Oberlin's Ariel Lewis 6-4, 6-1 in her first round match to secure All-America status. In the second round, Carlson fell to Williams College's No. 1 Kristin Alotta 6-3, 6-3.
Carlson - the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Year - is the fourth All-American in the history of the Swarthmore College women's tennis program and the first since Sara Sargent in 2007. She is the third Swarthmore College student-athlete to earn All-America status in 2011-12, joining Micah Rose '12 of the men's soccer team and Supriya Davis '15 of the women's swimming team.
Carlson finishes the 2011-12 season with an 18-5 singles record.
