Playoff Preview: Women's Tennis to Face Dickinson in Centennial Semifinal

CARLISLE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (9-5) will compete against Dickinson College in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference playoffs on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The No. 3 seed Garnet and the No. 2 seed Red Devils (15-3) will be battling for a spot in the Centennial Conference Championship, and will face the winner of the No. 1 Johns Hopkins and No. 4 Haverford match.  The Centennial Conference Women's Tennis Championship game is set for 11:00 am on Sunday at Johns Hopkins University.

Swarthmore is led by sophomore Lia Carlson, who is ranked #4 in the region.  Carlson has had a fine second-year campaign, going 16-4 out of the first singles spot. Junior Emily Rosenblum (7-4 on the season) will play second singles; she will be followed by Kelsey Johnson, Stephanie Chia, Kate Samuelson, and Brooke Wilkins.  Carlson and Rosenblum will also team up at first doubles, and are ranked  twelfth in the region as a pair.

Last time the Garnet met Dickinson, on April 14, the Red Devils got the upper hand by a 7-2 score.  Dickinson's Alysia Rodgers defeated Carlson, 7-5, 6-1, and remains one to watch in the postseason.  Swarthmore's two wins came from fourth singles, where Stephanie Chia defeated Dickinson's Nora Hajnoczky, 6-1, 6-2, and in third doubles, where Chia and Epiphany English bested Dickinson's third team 9-7.
