No. 8 Johns Hopkins Takes Down Women's Tennis, 8-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (9-5, 8-2 CC) dropped an 8-1 decision to defending Conference champions and eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet's lone point came from sophomore Lia Carlson, who defeated Baik soundly at number one singles by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

The Swarthmore women battled in the remainder of the matches, but the Blue Jays capitalized on strong starts. At number two singles, junior Emily Rosenblum dropped her match to Hogan, 1-6, 4-6, and at number three, junior Kelsey Johnson fell to Herndon, 6-2, 6-3.

At four singles, Clark defeated sophomore Katie Samuelson, 6-1, 6-1, and at five singles Phister downed junior Stephanie Chia, 6-1, 6-4. Rounding out the singles lineup for the Garnet was sophomore Brooke Wilkins who fell to Boger, 6-1, 6-3.

The Blue Jays swept the doubles matches, with Herndon/Clark defeating Carlson/Rosenblum at number one, 8-4, Berlinghof/Ketting defeating Samuelson/Chia, 6-1 (ret.), and Fields/Wilkins defeating Johnson/Wilkins, 8-1.

The Garnet now has a week to prepare for Centennial Conference playoffs. They will face Dickinson on Saturday. The location of that match is to be determined.
