Streaking Women's Tennis Topples Ursinus, 6-3
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (6-2, 5-0 CC) swept all six singles matches at Ursinus College to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference play, defeating the Bears 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
The victory marked the 100th coaching win in the career of head coach Jeremy Loomis.
The match began ominously, as the Garnet fell behind 3-0 after forfeiting all three doubles matches. Swarthmore's fortunes quickly changed, however, as the Garnet women dominated singles play to secure the win, not dropping a set in any of the six matches.
Sophomore Lia Carlson continued to build on her winning record at number one singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Talavera, and junior Kelsey Johnson earned a win at number two by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore Katie Samuelson barely gave up any games in beating Tyrrell, 6-0, 6-2 and junior Stephanie Chia did not lose a game in defeating Whitebloom, 6-0, 6-0.
The final two singles players for the Garnet were freshman Gayatri Iyengar, who defeated McDonough 6-1, 6-1 at number five, and sophomore Brooke Wilkins who earned a win over Dumler, 6-2, 6-3.
The Garnet takes to the road again on Saturday with a trip to Franklin and Marshall (11:00).
