Coleman's Game-Winning Overtime Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Over Scranton 1-0; Swat Claims Title at Inaugural Joe Bochicchio Classic

SCRANTON, Pa. — Senior Emily Coleman found the back of the net in the seventh minute of extra time as the Swarthmore College women's soccer team (3-2) won the title at the Inaugural Joe Bochicchio Classic in marvelous fashion, defeating the University of Scranton 1-0 (OT) on Sunday afternoon.

The victory over the previously-unbeaten Royals (3-1) - who entered the game ranked No. 4 in the Mid-Atlantic Region - was the Garnet's third-consecutive road victory and capped a grueling five-game road trip to start the season.

It came down to the wire, as the Garnet team found itself at a deadlock with the Royals after 90 minutes of regulation. In the 97th minute of play, junior Alexa Ross started the build up by passing to sophomore Amber Famiglietti, who dished it off to sophomore Megan Brock who then got the ball to Coleman. A Royal defender got a touch on Coleman's dribble, but she persevered to maintain possession, cutting back and finishing in far post past the keeper to score the game-winner.

The Garnet defense turned in a steadfast performance as well, withstanding 19 shots. Goalkeeper Marie Mutryn earned her second shutout of the week and was credited with seven saves on the day.

The Garnet's two wins at the Joe Bochicchio Classic came against squads that were the preseason favorites to win their respective conferences (Marywood/CSAC and Scranton/Landmark).

The Swarthmore women have six days to prepare for the first home contest and first conference opponent of the year, Franklin and Marshall. The match will be held on Saturday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. in Clothier Field Stadium.
