Women's Basketball Set to Host Marywood in ECAC South First Round on Wednesday
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team (20-7) earned a bid into the 2013 ECAC South Region Championship as the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Marywood (15-12) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. from Tarble Pavilion, the organization announced on Monday.
The Garnet extends its season with its first appearance in the ECAC Championship since the 2002-03 season. Swarthmore looks to redeem momentum after a heartbreaking loss to Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference title game.
The game is the first playoff basketball contest that Swarthmore has hosted since 2005.
Marywood, members of the Colonial States Athletic College (CSAC), fell to Gwynedd-Mercy College in the semifinals to earn its third straight bid into the tournament. Marywood features a young lineup led by Brittany Mang's 12.7 points per game. Danielle Terranella has been a force down the final stretch and is second on the team in points (8.7) and rebounds (6.3).
Moravian College takes the top seed after missing an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament and will meet Neumann University. Third-seeded Washington & Jefferson takes on Penn State-Behrend and No. 4 Juniata and No. 5 Carnegie-Mellon round out the South Region bracket.
The highest remaining seed will host the semifinal and final games on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3.
