Haverford Downs Women's Basketball on Senior Day, 61-48

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Bolstered by a 22-point performance by junior Dominique Meeks, the Haverford Fords (17-8, 12-8) defeated the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (9-15, 7-13) by a score of 61-48 on Saturday afternoon in Tarble Pavilion.

Sophomore Katie Lytle led the Garnet with 14 points and six rebounds while freshman Elle Larsen added seven points and six rebounds. Additionally, sophomore Kayla Moritzky contributed nine points and three rebounds.

Plagued by poor shooting from both teams, the contest remained relatively close during the first half of play. The Fords were able to capitalize off of Garnet turnovers and led by 10-2 in the first seven minutes of play.

The Garnet were able to come back, capitalizing on free throw opportinities (Swat shot 81.8 percent from the line over the whole game) and turnovers, brining the game back to within five points at the end of the half (25-19).

In the second half, despite improving its shooting percentage significantly, the Garnet allowed the Fords to score 14 unanswered points early on, making the contest 42-24 with about 15 minutes left to play.

The Garnet picked up its play to make the game 52-40 around the five minute mark, butit proved to be too little, too late, as the Fords held on for the 61-48 win.

Prior to the start of the game, the team honored seniors Genny Pezzola, Brittany Schmelz, Nicole Rizzo, and Christina Duron.

The Garnet wrapped up the season 9-15  (7-13 CC).
