Kira Kern ’11 and Kate Smayda ’13 were named to the All-Centennial second team as the softball team reloaded, coming off last year’s trip to the Centennial Conference finals.

After an All-Centennial Honorable Mention performance as a junior, Kern led the team in on-base percentage (.364) and runs scored (20). Smayda was the team’s top performer at the plate this season, leading the squad in batting average (.321), hits (26) and slugging percentage (.370).

Krista Scheirer ’11 finishes her Garnet career with eight home runs, tied for third in program history. She finished second on the team this season with 10 RBI. On the mound, first-year Melissa O’Connor led the team, posting a 3.37 ERA, with 64 strikeouts in an impressive rookie campaign, picking up five of the team’s seven victories this season.

With seven starters returning, plus the entire pitching staff, the team has the foundation to be a Centennial Conference contender next year.
