Phillips Competes in NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship Meet

WINNECONNE, Wis. - After his All-Region seventh-place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regional Meet last weekend, junior Jacob Phillips capped off his already successful junior season with a solid final run at the NCAA National Championship on Saturday.

Phillips finished 114th out of 279 individual runners with a time of 25:23.68 for the 8K race. He beat out runners from multiple rival schools in the Centennial Conference, including individuals from Dickinson, Johns Hopkins, and second-place team finishers Haverford.

North Central took the team title with 110 points, followed by Haverford (172 points), and Washington University (206 points). Seniors from St. Thomas, SUNY Geneseo, and St. Lawrence took the top three individual spots in the race.

Phillips is the first member of the Swarthmore cross country team to compete in the championship meet since Marc Jeuland '01.

Other highlights of Phillips' season include his 10th finish at the Centennial Conference Championships, first place finish in the long race at the Dickinson Invitational, his earning of the Centennial Conference Runner of the Week honor, and multiple finishes as the top Garnet runner at races throughout the season.
