Personal Bests Highlight Track & Field's Performances at Princeton, Millersville
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Swarthmore College track & field teams opened a busy weekend on Friday night with numerous individuals earning personal bests at the Princeton Distance Night Race and Millersville Metrics.
At Princeton, junior Jacob Phillips ran a personal best time and the second best time in Swarthmore history in the 10,000 meter run (31:39.92)
It was also a prolific distance race for the Garnet women, as senior Melissa Frick, senior Jen Johnson, and junior Becky Painter re-wrote the Swarthmore record book in one race. Frick (17:34.58), Johnson (17:48.33), and Painter (17:54.10) all ran personal bests in the 5000 meter run. Frick's time ranks second all-time in the Swarthmore history, Johnson's time ranks fourth all-time and Painter's ranks fifth.
At Millersville, junior Eric Verhasselt competed in the decathlon, finishing ninth overall with 513 points. Verhasselt finished seventh overall in the long jump (4.81m), shot put (9.21m) and high jump (1.50m).
Swarthmore returns to action Saturday with the Richard Stockton Osprey Invitational.
