Men's Track & Field Preps for Centennials With Weekend Meets

NEW YORK - With just one week until the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships, the Swarthmore College men's track & field team prepared with weekend meets at Haverford and NYU.

On Friday night in Haverford, a large contingent of Garnet athletes participated in the annual Keogh Invitational.

In the 1 mile run, sophomore Richard Scott led a group of Swarthmore runners with a time of 4:36.17, good for 18th place. He was followed by senior Henry Ainley (4:42.86), sophomore Dan Kalamarides (4:44.72), sophomore Jake Weiner (4:46.55), sophomore Hugh Troeger (4:47.54), freshman Emanuel Schorsch (4:47.84) and Charlie Huntington (4:57.61).

The Garnet also saw heavy participation in the 3,000 meter run, with junior Bill King leading the way with a third place finish (9:21.48). He was followed by  Harold Blum (9:25.86), Daniel Cramer (9:26.18), Jorin Schug (9:43.12) and Alec Toro (9:47.11).

In the 60 meter hurdles, junior Eric Verhasselt crossed the finish line in a time of 11.42.

In the field events, senior Daniel Ly finished third in the high jump (5-06.00) and fifth in the long jump (19-01.50). Freshman Perry Nguyen took fourth in the triple jump (38-05.50).

The Garnet returned to action with the NYU Division III Invitational on Saturday night.

Ly was back in action in New York City, taking third in the triple jump (13.19 meters).

Following his record-breaking performance in the 200 meter dash, junior Matthew Heck tackled the 800 meter run, finishing in a time of 2:02.37. In the 200 meter dash at NYU, freshman Tim Vaughan-Ogunlusi (pictured) finished in a time of 23.41, good for second among Centennial competition.

In the distance races, junior Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey(4:26.85), Robert Fain (4:31.78) and freshman Jonas Oppenheimer (4:34.67) all performed admirably, while senior Chris Wickham finished the 3,000 meter run in a time of 9:03.57.

The Garnet return to action on Saturday, February 25, with the Centennial Conference Championships from Ursinus College
