2010-11 Indoor Season (9th Place Centennials)
Chris Mayer-Bacon '11 finished in
sixth place in the 55 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of
8.56 to lead the Garnet at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track
& Field Championships from Haverford College. Daniel Ly '12
also performed admirably at the meet, taking sixth place in the
triple jump (13.00m) and eighth in the long jump (5.97m). In the
relays, the Garnet's best finish came in the distance medley, as
the team of Henry Ainley '12, John McMinn '13, Aidan
DuMont-McCaffrey '13 and Jake Weiner '14 took sixth place with a
time of 10:59.59. As a team, Swarthmore finished in ninth place at
the Championships. At the Boston University Valentine Invitational
two weekends prior to the Centennial championships, Jacob Phillips
'13 turned in one of the team's best individual performances of the
season, finishing the 5,000 meter run in a time of 15:10.44, which
ranks eighth all-time on the College's all-time performance list
and was nearly 40 seconds faster than his career-best time.
Season (9th Place Centennials)
A tremendous season from Jacob Phillips ’13 culminated with a pair of great runs. In the 10,000 meter run at the Centennial Championships, he recorded the second-fastest time (31:48.17) in program history. Just over week later, at the season-ending Swarthmore Last Chance Meet, he took second-place all-time in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:58.39. Phillips trails only former All-American Marc Jeuland ’01 in the all-time record book in both events.
The Centennial Championships produced several other exemplary performances. Daniel Ly ’12 brought home a bronze medal for a second-consecutive season, this time in the men’s high jump, thanks to a season-best high jump of 1.75 meters. Senior Chris Mayer-Bacon ’11 capped his Garnet career with fourth place in 400-meter hurdles (57.18) and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.56). Junior Chris Wickham ’12 ran a strong race in the 3000-meter steeplechase to earn seventh place with a season-best time of 9:52.66.
