PHILADELPHIA - Men's tennis assistant coach Josh Schofield recently captured the USTA National Men's 30 Grass Court Singles Championship, which was held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club Aug. 27 to Sept. 1.
Schofield defeated Jeff Wilson of the Cal Tennis Club 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to claim the coveted gold ball.
Schofield is entering his ninth season with Swarthmore tennis. Last season, Schofield served as the interim head coach of the men's team, leading the Garnet to a 14-10 record and second place in the Centennial Conference.
After the match, Schofield said "now that I have my gold ball, I can go back to changing my five-month-old daughter's diapers."
The Swarthmore men's tennis team opens the 2012 Fall campaign on Saturday with the Centennial Invitational from the College.
