2011 Season Review

2011 Swarthmore Men's Tennis (12-7, 8-1 CC)

Max Bressman '12

Thanks to an eight-match winning streak to close out the regular season, the men’s tennis team finished 8-1 in conference play en route to the No. 2 seed in the 2011 Centennial Conference.

After an 8-1 loss at Centennial champion Johns Hopkins on March 26, the Garnet ran off eight wins in a row leading into the Centennial playoffs, including a dominating 7-2 win over Haverford. Unfortunately, the season ended prematurely thanks to a 5-2 Centennial Conference playoff loss to No. 3 seed Franklin & Marshall.

Max Kaye ’14 and Max Bressman ’12 were named to the All-Centennial team, pairing up for second-team doubles honors. Kaye was also selected second-team singles. Kaye finished the season 11-10 in singles play and was one of just four freshmen to make the All-Centennial team. Bressman and Kaye combined to finish 13-6 in doubles play, including a conference-best 7-1 in Centennial play.

Impressive performances came from first-years Anthony Collard, named to the All-Centennial sportsmanship team, achieved 12-4 on the season, finishing the year with seven consecutive victories. Preston Poon ’14 was 10-7, ending the year similarly with seven straight wins.
