No. 4 Johns Hopkins Bests No. 20 Men's Tennis, 8-1
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 4 Johns Hopkins got the best of the No. 20 Swarthmore College men's tennis team (6-7, 1-1) in a battle of national and regional powers, as the Blue Jays cruised to an 8-1 win on Saturday afternoon from the College.
Sophomores Max Kaye and Christian Carcione picked up the Garnet's lone point of the day, winning 8-3 at No. 3 doubles over Hopkins' Noah Joachim and Ben Hwang.
In a highly-anticipated match-up of two teams ranked in the Top 5 of the Atlantic South region, Swat put up a good fight but eventually succumbed to Hopkins in singles play, which the Blue Jays swept 6-0.
Thanks to the Kaye/Carcione win, the Garnet men trailed 2-1 entering singles' play. Despite game efforts from senior Zak Kelm at No. 1 ( 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-3), senior Max Bressman at No. 3 (7-5, 6-3) and freshman Daniel Park at No. 6 ( 6-3, 3-6, 11-9), the Blue Jays swept the singles competition to complete the 8-1 win.
Swarthmore looks to get back on track Wednesday when it hosts Muhlenberg (4:00 pm).
