EWING, N.J. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (5-6) validated its new national ranking with a 6-3 victory over regional rival TCNJ on Saturday afternoon.
The Garnet jumped to a 2-1 lead following doubles play, thanks to wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. At No. 1, the duo of senior captains Zak Kelm and Max Bressman defeated the Lions' TJ Riley and Marc Nichols 8-5. At No. 3, sophomore Max Kaye and sophomore Christian Carcione pulled out an 8-3 win.
In singles, Swat captured four of six to secure the victory. The Garnet men swept singles, 2-thru-5, with sophomore Anthony Collard picking up an easy win at No. 2 (6-4, 6-3) and sophomore Preston Poon cruising at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2). At the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, Bressman and Kaye both rallied after dropping their first sets. Bressman rallied to win 2-6, 7-6, 7-4 over TCNJ's Marc Nichols while Kaye came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Howard Telson.
Swarthmore returns to action at Ursinus on Thursday.
