Men's Tennis Drops Close Decision to Whittier, 5-4

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (2-2) continued its spring break campaign in California with a close 5-4 loss to Whittier College on Tuesday evening.

Whittier and Swarthmore split the six singles matches, but Whittier claimed two doubles matches, proving to be the difference in this match.

Seniors Max Bressman and Zak Kelm won the team's lone doubles point at number one, defeating Seneviratne and Carregha, 8-6. Sophomores Anthony Collard and Max Kaye lost their number two doubles match, 8-4 and freshman Max Sacks and sophomore Daniel Park fell at number three doubles, 8-2.

In singles action, Bressman picked up his second win for the day at number three against Schommer, 7-5, 6-1. Kaye redeemed his loss in doubles, winning in a tough three-set match at number four against Herron, 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-8. Sophomore Preston Poon also won a close three-set match at number six singles, defeating Shimizu, 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-6.

In other singles action, Kelm lost to a strong opponent at number one singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Collard also dropped his singles match at number two, 7-5, 6-2. Sacks played at number five for the Garnet, and fell to Hansen, 6-4, 6-1.
