Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season with Swarthmore, Villanova Invitationals

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Members of the Swarthmore College men's tennis team opened the fall season by competing in the Swarthmore Invitational and the Villanova Invitational over the weekend. FreshmanMaxwell Sacks picked up a first-round win for the Garnet at Villanova, while sophomore Dan Park and freshman Irving Stone both saw success in singles and doubles action at the Swarthmore Invite.

In the first round of matches at Swarthmore, Park convincingly defeated Ursinus' Matt Hope 6-2, 6-1 while Irving Stone also defeated his opponent from Ursinus, Brent Stevenson, 6-2, 7-5.
 
Park and Irving also teamed up for doubles competition, and saw mixed results, defeating the Ursinus pair of Hope/Stevenson 8-5 before dropping a close match, 6-8 to the Johns Hopkins team of Hersh/Brown.
Sacks' win for the Garnet at Villanova was a highlight of the weekend as he defeated Nova's Mark Miller, posting a final score of 6-2, 6-2. Sacks also teamed up with sophomore Anthony Collard, but they unfortunately fell 6-8 in a tight doubles match against Villanova's Peyton/Miller.
Results from the second rounds of the Swarthmore and Villanova Invitationals are not yet available.
 
The men's team now returns to the practice courts in anticipation for the ITA Regional tournament, which begins on October 1.
