No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Too Much for Men's Tennis, 9-0

Claremont, Calif. - Playing the first day of the Stag-Hen Invitational from Ponoma-Pitzer, the Swarthmore College men's tennis team was shut out by No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-0, on Friday.

Freshman Max Kaye came closest to winning a match, as he played a hard-fought three sets against CMS' Matt Ellis.  Kaye came out of the gate with a 6-2 first set win, but he was held at love in the second set (6-0) and took a narrow defeat in the third (10-8).  Fellow freshman Preston Poon won Swarthmore's other set, winning his second set against CMS' Neel Kotrappa 6-3, but ultimately losing 6-4, 3-6, 10-2. No. 1 junior Stephen Youngblood and No. 2 junior Zak Kelm both forced second-set tiebreakers in their singles matches before succumbing to the competition.
