Senior Sam Bullard-Sisken placed third overall in the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard backstroke. SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's and women's swimming teams have released their competition schedule for the 2011-12 season. The Garnet will start the dual meet slate at 320 rival Widener on November 2 (6:00 pm), and three days later open the Centennial Conference season at McDaniel (2:00 pm). Swarthmore travels to face rival Franklin & Marshall - bested by the Garnet men last season for the first time in five years - on November 12 (2:00 pm). After a week off, the Garnet will participate in the Rowan Invite on November 19 (morning and evening sessions).

Travis Pollen Breaks Own S9 Paralympic American Record in 100-Yard Freestyle

Men's Swimming Finishes Third at Centennial Conference Championships
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - As the 2011 Centennial Conference Championships at Gettsyburg came to an end on Sunday night, the Swarthmore Garnet men’s swim team saw its 2010-2011 season culminate in a third-place finish. Swarthmore began the day 38.5 points behind second-place Franklin & Marshall, and, though they stood firm, couldn’t make up the deficit, finishing 36 points back of second (663-627). The Gettysburg Bullets took the title in their home pool with 736.5 points.

Swarthmore Men's and Women's Basketball, Swimming, and Track & Field Postponed
Due to the severe winter storm, all of today's Swarthmore sporting events have been postponed. The Swarthmore men's basketball game at McDaniel College has been rescheduled to Thursday January 27 at 7:30 PM. The women's basketball game at Bryn Mawr has been rescheduled to Thursday as well but the game time is yet to be determined. The men's and women's swim meet against visiting Washington College has also been postponed to a later date also still to be determined. Track & Field at Ursinus has also been postponed to a further date. Please check back for more information on all of these events as the storm progresses.

SAN ANTONIO - Sophomore Travis Pollen captured a national championship in the S9 classification 50 meter freestyle while taking second place in the 100 meter freestyle to highlight his outstanding performance at the 2010 U.S. Paralympics Spring Swimming Nationals, held at the Palo Alto College Natatorium over the weekend.

Swimmer Travis Pollen Off to Great Start at Para Nationals
SAN ANTONIO - Swarthmore swimmer Travis Pollen ’12 opened up the US Paralympic Nationals in San Antonio by qualifying for finals in three events, all with personal best times. Pollen, who is an above-knee amputee, is competing in the S9 class in the meet. In preliminaries this morning he placed 5th in the 100 meter backstroke (1:15.12), 3rd in the 200 IM (2:44.6), and is the top overall seed in his class in the 50 freestyle (28.47). He will swim in finals later today.

LANCASTER, Pa. – A strong start for Swarthmore College men’s swim team and the performance of freshman Jacob Benveniste highlighted the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships for the Garnet swim teams on Friday evening from Franklin & Marshall. The Garnet men find themselves in second place with 207 points – trailing only the first place Diplomats (258) after the first day of competition. Benveniste was the lone Garnet swimmer to capture a top three finish, clocking in at 4:44.56 in the 500-yard freestyle.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Senior All-American Anne Miller stole the show from snowy Washington College, breaking the Casey Swim Center record and earning an NCAA B-cut time in the 200 butterfly (2:07.84), as the Swarthmore College swim teams earned a split against Centennial rival Washington, with the men earning a 121-77 victory and the Swat women (4-6, 2-5) falling to the Shorewomen 120-84 on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Swat men (6-3, 5-1) have now won four consecutive conference meets heading into the Centennial Conference Championships in 10 days from Franklin & Marshall.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College swim teams earned a split on Senior Day from Ware Pool, as the men’s swim team (4-3, 3-1 CC) won a hard-fought battle over Conference rival Gettysburg (4-3, 3-1 CC) 117-88, but the Garnet women (4-4, 2-3 CC) fell to the Bullets (7-1, 5-0 CC) 111-94 on Saturday afternoon.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - After two days, three sessions and 36 events of swimming, the Garnet men and women made it worth their while as the men swam to a Swat Invite championship and the women to a second place finish on Saturday evening in Ware Pool.

Garnet Swim to Great Start in Swat Invite
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Garnet made a splash in day one of the Swarthmore Invitational on Friday in Ware Pool. Senior Anne Miller finished second in the 500-yard freestyle touching the wall in 5:14.33. Freshmen Jake Benveniste (4:51.71) and Tyler Hanson (4:56.03) finished two and three in the 500-yard freestyle to round out the Garnet's domination of the event.

Swarthmore Men Drown Ursinus 131-71; Women Lose Heartbreaker 106-99
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore men's swimming team (2-3, 2-1) dominated visiting Ursinus 131-71, while the women's competition (2-3, 1-2) came down to the final race, but the Garnet finished just short in a 106-99 loss on Tuesday evening from Ware Pool.

NYU Swims Past Garnet; Duncan Clocks Season Best
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Anne Miller swam for two season bests and missed the B cut (2:09.12) in the 200 fly by less than a second but it wasn't enough as a perfect NYU (5-0) defeated the Swarthmore (2-2) women 120-79. Daniel Duncan continued his stellar freshman campaign, touching the wall first in the 200-yard fly and 200-yard free for two of his own season bests Saturday afternoon from Ware Pool. The men lost 112-93.

Garnet Swimmers Lose Conference Match-Up to Franklin & Marshall
LANCASTER, Pa. - Freshmen Daniel Duncan (200 freestyle) and Jacob Benveniste (500 freestyle) each won individual races for the the Garnet men while senior Anne Miller (200 butterfly) won her individual race for the women but both teams fell short of victory to a tough F&M team. The men (1-2) lost the meet 117-88 and the women (2-1) lost 122-78.

Swimming Sweeps McDaniel in Conference Openers
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior All-American Anne Miller (1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle), freshman Hannah Gotwals (200 IM, 100 backstroke) and freshman Daniel Duncan (1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle) each won two individual races to lead the Swarthmore men's and women's swimming teams to decisive victories against McDaniel in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet women (2-0, 1-0) earned a 56-38 victory while the men (1-1, 1-0) won by a 56-39 margin.

Swarthmore Swimmers Open Season With Split at Widener
CHESTER, Pa. - The Garnet women swam to victory over Widener University 114-79, but the men fell short, losing to the Pride 118-87 in both squad's season-opening event on Wednesday night from the Schwartz Center. Senior All-American Anne Miller led the Swarthmore women to victory with three race wins (1000, 500, 200 freestyles) and 27 points.
