Four Swimmers Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

PHILADELPHIA - Four members of the Swarthmore College swimming teams - sophomores Margaret Regan and Rebecca Teng of the women's swim team and Daniel Duncan and Lance Lui of the men's swim team - have been named to the 2012 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams for their respective sports.

Regan, a Math and Physics major from Montclair, N.J., won four gold medals at the 2012 Centennial Conference Championship meet in February, winning individually in the 200 breaststroke and 400 IM and also taking part in the record-breaking 200 and 400 medley relays.  Regan is a two-time defending Conference champion in the 400 IM, having also earned a gold medal at the 2011 meet. She was also named to the 2011-12 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Teng, from New York, N.Y., was a three-time gold medalist at this year's Championships, contributing to both record-breaking medley relay distances as well as the 4x100 freestyle relay.  She was also named to the 2011-12 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Duncan, a Linguistics major from St. Charles, Mo., is a two-time selection to the Inquirer All-Area team, having also earned honors in 2011. Last season , Duncan earned four medals at the year-end Conference Championships, taking silver in the 200 and 400 IMs and winning bronze in the 200 butterfly and 400 medley relay. In 2012 at the Centennial Championships, Duncan was a member of the fifth place 400 medley relay team and the sixth place 200 freestyle relay team. Individually, he placed eighth in the 400 IM and won the B-final and finished 9th overall in the 200 butterfly.

Liu, a senior from Paoli, Pa., is a first-time All-Area selection. At the 2012 Centennial Conference Championships, Liu was a member of the fifth place 400 medley relay team (3:37.56), the sixth place 200 freestyle relay team (1:28.14) and finished eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.00). Also excelling in the classroom, Liu has been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for three straight seasons.

In order to be eligible for the All-Area team, an athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or key reserve.
