Men's Swimming Routs Cabrini in 2012 Opener, 81-55
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - In its return to action on Saturday following a month-long winter break and a training trip to Puerto Rico, the Swarthmore men's swim team appeared to barely miss a beat, downing the Cabrini Cavaliers by an 81-55 score.
The Garnet benefitted form strong races across the board and the return of several key members who had spent the last semester abroad. After sweeping an uncontested 200 medley relay, Swarthmore did not let up for the duration of the competition. Junior Josh Satre won the 1000 freestyle by nearly a full minute (10:38.91) and also took the 500 (5:10.04), proving the Garnet's only double-winner of the day.
Swarthmore also picked up wins from junior Daniel Duncan (200 freestyle, 1:51.63), sophomore Stan Le (100 breaststroke, 1:04.60), sophomore Frederick Toohey (200 butterfly, 2:11.06), freshman Max Krackow (50 freestyle, 22.92), senior Tim Brevart (pictured) (100 freestyle, 50.39), senior Dante Fuoco (200 backstroke, 2:11.39), senior Lance Liu (200 breaststroke, 2:23.22), and sophomore John Flaherty (400 IM, 4:26.33). The "A" 200 freestyle relay team of Le, Fuoco, and sophomores Gerardo Limon and Lucas Zullo led the field by over ten seconds, closing out the meet in 1:19.99.
The Garnet looks to continue its post-break success on Wednesday as the team travels to Washington College. Action is scheduled to start at 6:30.
