Men's Swimming in Second Place After Day One of Swarthmore Invitational

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swim team received point-scoring performances from 12 different swimmers as they finished the first day of this weekend's Swarthmore Invitational at Ware Pool in second place with 234 points, still within striking distance of first-place Rowan University (294).

In the first individual event, the 500 freestyle, the men placed five swimmers in the top 16.  Sophomore Daniel Duncan paced the Garnet with a 4:54.16, good for third place – right behind him was fellow sophomore Joshua Satre, who recorded a fourth-place finish in 4:58.03.  Freshman Brian Nadel (8th, 5:03.30), sophomore Tyler Hanson (9th, 5:04.31), and sophomore Jake Benveniste (10th, 5:10.55) rounded out the Swarthmore scoring.

Despite that impressive showing, the Garnet depth was not nearly done for the day, as six swimmers – none of whom were represented in the 500 – cracked the top 16 in the subsequent 200 IM.   Freshman Stan Le touched second in 2:03.48, and freshman John Flaherty (5th, 2:05.25), sophomore Charles Hepper (7th, 2:06.48), junior Samuel Bullard-Sisken (8th, 2:07.85), junior captain Dante Fuoco (11th, 2:09.06), and sophomore Roger Chin (15th, 2:09.96) also contributed to the point total.

Junior Timothy Brevart capped the individual scoring with a 5th place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.04).  The Garnet received 4th (1:30.66) and 9th (1:33.78) place finishes from the 200 freestyle relay teams, and 5th (3:48.45) and 7th (3:53.76) place finishes in the 400 medley relay.
The second and final day of the Swarthmore Invitational kicks off at 9:30 am on Saturday.  Evening sessions begin at 5:00 pm.
