Soccer Teams Ranked in NSCAA Polls
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Thanks to continued strong play in the early part of the season, the Swarthmore College soccer teams both held on to spots in the season's second NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings, released on Tuesday afternoon.
Thanks to a 2-0 win over RPI, the Garnet men's soccer team (3-0) rose two spots to No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Garnet also placed just outside of the Top 25 in the season's first D3Soccer.com National Top 25 poll, receiving the most Top 25 votes of any team outside of the poll. The Garnet will have a tremendous chance to improve its ranking this week, which begins with a trip to Chester to face 320-rival Widener (Wednesday) and ends with a trip to Lancaster to face Centennial foe Franklin & Marshall (Saturday), which is currently the top ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region and the No. 5 team in the nation.
Thanks to a 1-1 week, the Garnet women's soccer team (2-2) remained in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings at No. 9. The Garnet's only defeats of the season have come to Misericordia - the region's No. 3 ranked squad - and to Widener in an overtime stunner. The Garnet opens Centennial play on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall.
