No. 14 Men's Soccer Blanks McDaniel 2-0; D'Annunzio Ties All-Time Shutout Record
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophomore Jack Momeyer and senior Micah Rose each found the back of the net while senior goalkeeper David D'Annunzio tied the program record with his 25th career shutout to lead the Swarthmore College men's soccer team (7-2, 3-1) to a 2-0 win over the McDaniel Green Terror on Saturday afternoon.
The victory was the Garnet's third win in four attempts in Centennial Conference play and second in a row following an uncharacteristic two-game losing skid.
D'Annunzio played 90 minutes in the net, recording two saves and allowing nothing across for the Green Terror. The shutout was his fourth of the season and the 25th of his career, which ties the Swarthmore program record. D'Annunzio currently holds the 20-year-old record with Andrew Cavenagh '91.
D'Annunzio's performance was backed up by a consistent offense that outshot McDaniel 21-9 over the course of the game.
Momeyer gave the Garnet the lead with a 14th-minute unassisted goal, his second of the year.
The Garnet returns to non-Conference action on Wednesday, traveling to Manhattanville to seek its eighth win of the season. Action is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
