Swarthmore Soccer Teams Set for Preseason Tours of Europe
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College soccer teams are set to embark on trips of a lifetime in the coming weeks as both squads will be making separate preseason tours of Europe.
The women's soccer team will be the first squad to make the trip across the pond, beginning a nine-day tour of Germany/Netherlands/Belgium on Friday, July 15. The team's stay in Germany coincides with the playing of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Final in Frankfurt.
The men's soccer team departs for Greece on August 1 as part of a 13-day journey. The trip begins with a week-long stay on the scenic island of Crete followed by an excursion in the ancient city of Athens. More details about the men's trip - including the full itinerary and travel roster - will be made available on the website prior to departure.
Fans of Swarthmore Athletics will get the chance to follow each team's journey through travel blogs, pictures and videos compiled by the players, coaches and athletics department staff. Several different members of the women's soccer team will be providing pictures and commentary of their trip while Sports Information Director Mark Anskis and select members of the men's soccer team will maintain a blog from Greece complete with pictures and video.
