Men's Soccer Releases 2011 Schedule

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The defending Centennial Conference champion Swarthmore College men's soccer team has released its 2011 schedule.

The Garnet open the 2011 slate at home with the 14th Annual Garnet Alumni Classic. Swat opens the Classic with Immaculata on Saturday, September 3 (7:00 p.m.) followed by Rutgers-Camden on Sunday, September 4 (4:00 p.m.). Widener is the other squad competing in the two-day Classic.

Following the Classic, the Garnet's next home game is against that same Pride squad on September 14 in the two team's annual "320 Challenge" battle.

Outside of the Garnet Alumni Classic and annual battle with Widener, the 2011 schedule features several other challenging non-conference games. The Garnet will travel to Arcadia, Manhattanville, Scranton and Stevens Tech in non-conference match-ups, while Richard Stockton will make the trip to Clothier in late October. The  September 21 match-up with fellow regional powerhouse Stevens is one of the most anticipated non-conference matches in all of Division III soccer, while the Richard Stockton game is also noteworthy as the Ospreys handed the then-No. 1 Garnet its only defeat of the 2010 season.

Swarthmore begins its defense of the Centennial crown when it hosts Franklin & Marshall on September 17. Eleven days later from Clothier Field, it's a rematch of the 2010 Centennial Conference Championship classic when Muhlenberg returns to campus. Other highlights from the Centennial schedule include a Garnet Weekend battle against rival Johns Hopkins (October 22), the home finale against Washington College (October 26) and the annual rivalry game at Haverford (October 29).

In all, the Garnet's 2011 schedule includes nine home games, eight away contests and features three teams that made the 2010 NCAA Playoffs.
