Golf Finishes in Fifth Place at Mid-Atlantic Region Invitational

HERSHEY, Pa. - Led by Top 12 performances from freshman Andrew Park and senior Paul Weston, the Swarthmore College golf team finished in fifth place out of 14 teams in the highly-competitive two-day Mid-Atlantic Region Invitational from the Hershey Country Club.

Battling nearly 50 mile per our winds, the Garnet finished Monday's second round with a score of 337, bringing its two-day total to 665, one stroke behind second-place Allegheny (664) and four strokes behind third place McDaniel (661). St. John Fisher dominated the field with a score of 638, 13 strokes better than second place Franklin & Marshall (651).

Park led the Swat contingent with a two-day total of 161, tying for 10th place. Weston was just one stroke behind with a 162, good for 12th place in a field of 73. Park also finished with team's low score in Monday's second round (81).

Sophomore Sam White was the Garnet's third-place finisher, shooting a second-round 86 to finish with a 169. Sophomores Kyle Knapp and Jeff Wall each finished with a two-day total of 174 to round out the team scoring.

While the "A" team was in Hershey, members of the Swat "B" team hosted a home meet at Rolling Green with five other schools. The Garnet team finished with a 360, led by sophomore Price Ferchill's 78 and senior Alex Nichamin's 80. Ursinus finished with the low team score of 335.

Competing as an individual at Rolling Green, freshman Amanda Beebe shot an 89.

Swarthmore returns to action with the Glenmaura Tournament in Northeast Pennslyvania over the weekend.
