Weston, Golf Team Take Home Third Place at McDaniel Spring Invitational
ABBOTTSVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College golf team posted the lowest team score on day two of the McDaniel Spring Invitational (301) to push past McDaniel and finish third in the field of 18 on Sunday from the Bridges Golf Club.
Swarthmore finished first among Centennial Conference competition at the McDaniel Spring Invitational for the second-consecutive season. Thanks to its finish, the Garnet would earn the Conference's NCAA automatic bid in the event that the Centennial Conference tournament is cancelled due to weather.
The Garnet had three Top 10 individual finishers, led by senior Paul Weston, who shot a 72 on day two, tying for third place with Rochester's Nicholas Palladino. Weston's two day total of 150, only two strokes behind the tournament champion, Skidmore's John McCarthy.
Freshman Andrew Park shot the lowest individual round of the day, shooting par for the day with a 71, finishing tied for seventh place in the field of 89.
In his first tournament start of the season, sophomore Sam White finished tied for 10th place and shot a 154 two-day total. White added a 79 on day two after posting a 75 on Saturday.
Sophomore Jeff Wall posted Swarthmore's fourth best score of the day with a 79 and tied for 30th. Classmate Kyle Knapp rounded out the Swat lineup with an 83 and finished the tournament tied for 44th.
In the women's tournament, freshman Amanda Beebe shot an 89 on day two to add to her day one 87 and finished tied for 15th overall.
The Swarthmore golf team returns to Rolling Green Country Club tomorrow for quad match with Rosemont, Immaculata and Eastern. Teams tee off at 1:15 pm.
