Wall Shoots Program Record 69 to Lead Golf to Swarthmore Invitational Championship
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Sophomore Jeff Wall carded six birdies to propel him to a Swarthmore all-time low score of 69 on Monday afternoon to lead golf team to a 305 team score and Swarthmore Invitational championship.
Wall's 69 surpasses Jeff Lazarus' '10 previous record of a 70.
Rosemont College finished in second for the tournament with a score of 318 edging Ursinus who came in third with a 321.
With the shotgun start, Wall started on the 18th hole an birdied to start off his record-breaking round. After posting three bogeys and a birdie to round out the front nine two-strokes over, Wall found his groove on the back-nine.
Despite one bogey on the back, Wall was near flawless; carding five birdies en route to his team and tournament low, 69.
Senior Paul Weston also had a great day for Swat, tying for second lowest score of the tournament with a 75.
Rounding out the top five for Swarthmore were senior Alex Nichamin with a 79 and sophomores Kyle Knapp and Price Ferchill with a pair of 82s.
Swarthmore added a 'B' team into the tournament as well that finished seventh in the field of 15. Leading the way was freshman Andrew Park, shooting a 76.
Sophomore Sam White shot an 81 while freshman Miles Shuck put together a 90 and senior Alex Leichter a 97.
In the women's division, Swarthmore's lone golfer, freshman Amanda Beebe put up an impressive 86 to lead the women.
The Swarthmore golf team continues is fall season on Tuesday, September 20th when it travels to Blue Ridge Country Club for the Messiah Fall Open. Tee-off is set for 12:00 PM.
