Dickinson Downs Cold-Shooting Men's Basketball, 66-45

CARLISLE, Pa.  - A close contest in the first half, the Dickinson Red Devils (7-8, 4-4) took control in the final 20 minutes to handily defeat the Swarthmore College men's basketball team (1-14, 1-7) by a score of 66-45 on Saturday afternoon at Dickinson College.

Sophomore Jay Kober led the Garnet effort with 15 points and four rebounds. Junior Will Gates contributed seven points and seven rebounds. Senior Michael Giannangeli and junior Jordan Martinez added five points, while freshman Dominic Rizzo and sophomore Joe Keedy each tallied four.

An 18-point performance from Dickinson junior Chris Barsanti and a 12 point performance from Dickinson freshman Gerry Wixted paved the way for the Red Devil victory, its second over the Garnet this season.

In the first few minutes of play, the Garnet and the Red Devils battled back and forth until Garnet turnovers allowed the Red Devils to pull ahead. Dickinson built a 12-point lead midway through the first half and never relinquished its lead. A three-pointer from sophomore Adam Honig capped the first half and gave the Red Devils a 33-22 at the break.

Strong offense from the Red Devils, coupled with poor shooting from the Garnet, allowed the Red Devils to build a substantial lead throughout the second half and pull away. A total of 10 different Red Devils found the scoring column as Dickinson finished off the 66-45 win.

Swarthmore struggled shooting the ball all game long, shooting a season-low 23 percent from the field.

The Garnet continued its strong season at the free-throw line, hitting 19-of-24 shots.

The Garnet returns to play against rival Haverford College on Wednesday, January 18th. Action is slated for 8:00 at Haverford.
