Gettysburg Clips Men's Basketball, 67-43
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Visiting Gettysburg used a 24-point game from junior Alex Zurn and a dominating second-half performance to defeat the Swarthmore College men's basketball team 67-43 on Monday evening from Tarble Pavilion.
Junior Will Gates led the Garnet (1-12, 1-5) effort with 15 points and six rebounds. Senior Michael Giannangeli added nine points and four assists while sophomore Jay Kober recorded eight points and three steals.
The Bullets (6-7, 3-3) shot a sizzling 61 percent from the field in second half to turn a close game into a rout. Leading 31-24 heading into the second half, Gettysburg opened the second half on a 10-0 run and never looked back. With their offense putting on a clinic and the defense holding the Garnet to just two field goals over the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Bullets built a commanding 28-point lead en route to the Centennial win.
Swarthmore was hot in the first half from behind the arc, shooting 45.5 percent, scoring 15 of its 24 first half points from three-point range. Gates hit three-of-five while Kober and Giannangeli each dropped a superhoop.
Unfortunately, the Bullets edged the Garnet with its 50 percent (12-24) shooting from the field and 50 percent (4-8) shooting from beyond the arc.
Swat will try to pick up it first win of the new year on Thursday, January 12 when it travels to Baltimore to take on Centennial foe Johns Hopkins. Play is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
