Arcadia Slays Men's Basketball, 87-59
GLENSIDE, Pa. – Behind five players in double-figures and a monster first half, host Arcadia (7-4) dominated the Swarthmore College men's basketball team (1-10) by a final score of 87-59 in the Garnet's final non-conference match of the year on Thursday evening.
Freshman Joe Brown scored 17 points, 10 before the half, to pace the Knights who doubled up the Garnet at halftime 48-24. Arcadia was 55% from the field in the first half compared to just 33% for the Garnet.
Swarthmore junior Will Gates led all players with 25 points - including 19 in a strong second half - while sophomore Joe Keedy (pictured) added eight points and sophomore Jay Kober tallied seven.
But it wasn't nearly enough for the Garnet as Arcadia never trailed and led by as many as 33 in the final minutes.
The hosts jumped out to an 8-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. A Keedy jumped at 14:19 in the first cut the deficit to 12-5, but that was as close as the Garnet could get the rest of the way. Arcadia followed with an 18-7 run spanning over eight minutes to extend the lead to 18 and used an 11-3 run late in the first to blow the game open.
Swarthmore returns to Tarble Pavilion for the first time since November 30 to host No. 8 Franklin and Marshall (12-0) on Saturday in a Centennial Conference match. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
