Agathis, Jones Named Centennial Second Team All-Conference
LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior Sophia Agathis and junior Nia Jones of the Swarthmore College field hockey team were both named to the Centennial Conference Second Team for the 2012 season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
This is the second consecutive season the both players received second-team accolades for their field performances.
Jones, at forward, led the Garnet offense throughout the season, registering a team high in goals (12) and points (28). She posted three four-point games and collected a season-high six points against Bryn Mawr (Oct. 24th) with a hat trick in a 5-1 victory for Swarthmore.
Agathis checked-in as the Garnet's fourth leading scorer this season with 13 points (four goals and five assists), including a three-point performance against Richard Stockton (Sept. 6th) in a 7-5 win for Swarthmore. The senior midfielder also collected the game-winning goal against Arcadia (Sept. 11th) in a 2-1 rout.
Despite missing the Centennial Conference Championship tournament, Swarthmore collected its first winning season since 2006 and have collected a bid into the ECAC tournament for the first time since 1997 when the Garnet won the title.
