Field Hockey Releases 2012 Schedule

Swarthmore, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team announced its 2012 schedule on Friday.

The Garnet kick off the 2012 campaign with the two-day Drew Fall Festival on September 1 and 2. Swarthmore will face local rival Cabrini (Sept. 1) and Mercy (Sept. 2) while at the Drew Tournament.

Including the Drew Tournament, the Garnet plays six of seven games away from Clothier Field to start the season. Swat will play non-conference matches at Richard Stockton and Widener, in the 320-Challenge, before the home-opener on Tuesday, September 11 against Arcadia.

It is right back to the road for Swarthmore as the team opens conference play against the two Centennial finalists from a year ago, a Saturday, September 15 battle with runner-up Franklin & Marshall and a midweek September 19 trip to the eight-time-defending-champion Ursinus Bears.

Swarthmore plays five of the next six at home including the Centennial home-opener against Dickinson on Saturday, September 22 and non-conference games against Eastern, in a rematch of a thrilling Garnet overtime win last year, and Lebanon Valley.  The home-stand concludes with two critical Centennial matches against Washington College and Gettysburg, on Wednesday, October 3 and Saturday October 6.

The Garnet ends the 2012 slate with home games against Tri-Co rivals Bryn Mawr and Haverford.  The Owls will visit Clothier Field on Wednesday, October 24 while the Fords arrive over Garnet Weekend for a noon start on Saturday, October 27.
