Jones, Agathis Named Second Team All-Centennial

LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore Nia Jones and junior Sophia Agathis of the Swarthmore College field hockey team were both named to the Centennial Conference Second Team for the 2011 season, the Conference announced on Monday.

Jones led the offense through much of the season, posting team highs in goals (9) and points (21).  She scored twice in what was potentially the biggest game of the Garnet's season, a 3-2 win over Johns Hopkins; the win was Swarthmore's first over the Blue Jays since 2006.

Agathis was second on the team in goals, with 7, and third in assists, with 5, and in points, with 19.  She scored a pair of goals in Swarthmore's first Conference win, against Dickinson, and another pair in a 5-1 midseason thumping of Immaculata.

The selection is the first for both women.  The Swarthmore field hockey team turned in its finest season in years, tallying five Conference wins and fighting for a playoff spot till the final game of the season.
