Field Hockey Falls to Eastern 3-1
ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Freshman Kate Teleky scored for the second consecutive game while senior goalie Gina Grubb recorded 14 saves, but it was not enough as the Swarthmore field hockey team (2-2, 1-0) was defeated by Eastern 3-1 on Saturday afternoon from St. Davids.
The Eagles maintained a significant advantage in shots for the first half (14-1), but the game remained scoreless through the first 30 minutes of play. The Eagles finally broke the ice with a pair of unassisted goals over a three-minute span to end the half. Elya Troup scored in the 31st minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, Yvonne Herbster found the back of the cage to give Eastern a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Following another Eastern goal in the 63rd minute to make the score 3-0, Teleky scored in the 66th minute after being set up on the assist from fellow freshman Sophia Agathis to bring the score to the 3-1 final.
The Eagles maintained a 24-5 shot advantage and 11-4 advantage in corners for the game.
The Garnet return to action on Tuesday, September 15, when it hosts Elizabethtown from Clothier Field Stadium. Action is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
