KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Cam Wiley's breakout 2016-17 season was recognized on the national level on Thursday when he was named an All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Wiley (Atlanta, Ga./ Marist) was named to the All-America Third Team, and became the first All-American in Garnet Men's Basketball history.
Wiley, who had scored 40 points total in his freshman campaign, exploded for a program record 537 points in 2016-17. Wiley won the starting point guard role seven games into the season and averaged 18.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He scored at least 10 points in every game this season and did so while shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and 41.3 percent from three.
He is the only underclassman to earn All-America honors this season. Wiley has also been named this season to the NABC All-District First Team and the D3hoops.com All-Region First Team. He earned Centennial Conference Player of the Year honors and was the Most Outstanding Player of the Centennial Conference Tournament.
The Garnet won a program best 23 games in 2016-17, won their first ever Centennial Conference Championship, made the NCAA Tournament for the first time and advanced to the second round.
