The Swarthmore College Athletic Department welcomes to its staff John Hatfield, recently hired to the position of Athletics Equipment and Operations Manager. Mr. Hatfield brings nearly 40 years of experience in athletics facilities and equipment management to the Swarthmore staff.
"I think we were fortunate to have John express an interest in our program," Marian Ware Director of Athletics Adam Hertz said. "We'll see immediate benefits from his varied and comprehensive experience, and his commitment to his profession and our programs."
From 2000 until 2012, Hatfield served as the Head Equipment Manager for the Philadelphia Eagles. In this capacity, he managed the daily equipment needs of a professional football team and also was responsible for all gameday staff. In addition, he had the special responsibility of serving as the project manager overseeing the construction of the Eagles new home stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, in addition to their new practice facilities.
Mr. Hatfield worked for more than 20 years at the university level with head equipment manager positions at schools including USC, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Pittsburgh. Up until recently, he worked at the Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School in nearby Drexel Hill as the General Manager and Logistics Coordinator. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing building reconstruction and code compliance and also worked to upgrade the athletic facilities at the school.
Hatfield studied education at the University of Maryland before serving for six years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of specialist.
