USTFCCCA OUTDOOR REGION AWARD WINNERS NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior thrower
Osazenoriuwa Ebose has been chosen as the Division III Mideast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition,
Lauren Lucci was named the Division III Mideast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
Ebose won Centennial Conference titles in the shot put and discus throw and will be competing in both events at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this week. Her winning shot put mark of 49-feet, 8.25-inches at the league's championship meet ranks first nationally this season and ninth on the all-time Division III shot put list. In addition, Ebose's mark of 152-2 in the discus throw ranks ninth in the country this spring.
Lucci, who was the national champion in the shot put in 2008 as a student-athlete at Widener, oversees the training and development of the Garnet throwers. Her women's athletes combined to break school records in all four throwing events and score 29 points at the Centennial Conference Championships. In addition to Ebose's accomplishments, Lucci helped sophomore
Maggie O'Neil establish program standards in the javelin throw and hammer throw. O'Neil also registered a collegiate-best mark in all three throwing events she competed in at the Centennial Conference Championships and most notably placed third in the javelin throw.
Ebose will compete at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Chamoionships in the discus throw on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. and in the shot put on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The event is being hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
